How to Be Physically Ready for Disney World
No matter how young and active you are, you need to be prepared for the physical work involved in a day at Disney World. It may be a magical experience, but it can also be a tiring one, especially with the Florida heat involved. Fortunately, there are things you can do to prepare – keeping all ages in mind – plus you can book one of the comfortable and spacious vacation villas at FantasyWorld, one of the leading Kissimmee vacation resorts. It’s a fantastic place to relax and rejuvenate after a day at Disney.
There’s inevitably a lot of planning that goes into a Disney visit, including must-sees and must-rides, but you also need to plan your clothing. This doesn’t mean stylish, this means clothing that will help you adjust to the Florida weather. It does get cooler during the winter, but most of the time, especially since you’re going to be outdoors for the majority of the day, it’s important to have breathable clothing that won’t make you sweaty, hot, and uncomfortable. Loose, light, and preferably the type that wicks away sweat is your best choice, and for fall and winter, look for lightweight but warm layers you can add or remove easily. You want lightweight, because you don’t want to be carrying around a bunch of heavy coats all day.
You also need to go shoe shopping well in advance if you don’t have the kind of shoes that will be appropriate for miles of walking. You’re likely to cover 7-10 miles of ground when you visit Disney, and you’ll need shoes that are comfortable but also supportive. Sore feet can ruin any outing. If you buy new shoes, make sure they’re broken in before you go, because you don’t want to end up with blisters.
A great way to break in new shoes is to set up a daily family walk to get you used to all of that walking. Do increasingly longer walks around the neighborhood in the early evenings, and do some longer trail walks during the day on weekends. Pick fun walking trails to keep everyone entertained, and consider taking along the bag you plan to use (preferably a fanny pack or lightweight backpack or messenger bag) with some water and simple snacks so you can get a feel for what it will be like walking through the park.
If you’re going to be using your own stroller, make sure it has the appropriate sun protection and preferably space to hold diaper bags or other bags that you’ll need so you can give your back a rest. Any bag quickly becomes a hot nuisance after a while, so avoid carrying a lot of items. One bag with the basics, including bandaids, water bottles, snacks, pain killers, and sunscreen, can be passed between the parents, if possible, to avoid one person taking on all of the weight.
Water bottles really are important, because it’s easy to become dehydrated walking around the parks and standing in lines, often in the sun. Even when it’s not summertime hot, it’s important to stay hydrated and wear sunscreen, and reapply the sunscreen regularly, even in the winter. You can refill your water bottles for free at certain places in the park or get free cups of water to save spending a fortune on bottled water all day. You’ll all feel better if you choose water over sugary sodas. It’s also a good idea to pack healthy snacks to tide everyone over between meals, though of course you’ll want to indulge in some treats. Fortunately, FantasyWorld villas/townhomes have complete kitchens, so you can make healthy snacks or choose to focus on healthy breakfasts and/or dinners. Definitely don’t skip breakfast!
It is a good idea to be as healthy and physically fit as possible when visiting Disney World. It can be a lot, even for adults, and is especially tiring for smaller children, so it is a good idea to have ways to carry or push them when they start to get tired and cranky. The more prepared you are, the more you’ll enjoy your experience and then you can return home for the day to FantasyWorld, one of the top-notch Kissimmee vacation resorts that offer comfort, convenience, and a wealth of entertainment on site.
