Discover St Cloud’s Murals

It’s easy to focus mainly on the numerous theme parks throughout Central Florida when planning your vacation. Yet there’s so much more to see and do throughout the area. If you’re staying in a Kissimme vacation villa at FantasyWorld Resort, you’re ideally located to get out and explore more of the region, including nearby St. Cloud’s downtown murals.

Located just 20 minutes from Kissimmee, St. Cloud’s downtown area is full of things to see and do, ranging from historic buildings to independent restaurants, stores, and even a monthly market. As you’re walking around this charming city, you can’t help but admire the 15 colorful murals throughout Downtown St. Cloud. Local property owners have offered up the sides of their historic buildings to highlight the town’s history, notable locations, and the people who helped make St. Cloud what it is today.

The number of murals continues to grow, and one of the most recent is surely the most welcoming, as it literally says Welcome to St. Cloud! Within the individual letters of the city’s name you’ll find individual murals, highlighting elements such as the old Joyland Beach, the city’s military history, and the many prominent women in the community. This mural – painted by local artist Alan Pepin – is also available as a postcard or poster at the St. Cloud Main Street office on the corner of Massachusetts Avenue and 9th Street, and makes a truly artistic souvenir of your trip.

Another eye-catching mural depicts the red amaryllis, the city’s official flower. This red beauty was chosen in part due to its ability to withstand Florida’s climate. In addition, amaryllis means sparkling in Greek, an apt depiction of the bud’s star shape.

There are plenty of nod’s to St. Cloud’s history, including the picturesque Joyland Beach recreation area. Located along East Tohopekaliga by Lakeshore Boulevard, this was a popular spot for enjoying beach activities or just sitting back and relaxing. Peaking in the mid-20th century, locals and visitors enjoyed the white sandy shores, swimming facilities, and covered picnic areas. The Joyland Beach Pavilion lives on with this memorable mural.

These are just a few of the many murals you’ll see as you explore Downtown St. Cloud. You can pick up a free guide of the murals at St. Cloud Main Street for a self-guided tour, though there are occasionally guided tours available. There’s plenty to see and do in St. Cloud, making it worth the short drive from your spacious Kissimmee vacation villa at FantasyWorld Resort. Book your villa today and make sure  you add the St. Cloud murals to your itinerary!
