Florida Bioluminescent Kayaking and Rafting Tours

These days, everyone is looking for a way to spend time outdoors in a safe yet entertaining environment. Fortunately, there’s no shortage of things to do in Central Florida, even beyond the various theme parks. Florida is filled with stunning natural beauty and there are numerous ways to take in the wonders of nature when you stay at one of the Fantasy World vacation villas in Kissimmee FL. When you stay here, you’ll find yourself ideally located to try something new and exciting, such as the bioluminescent kayaking and rafting tours.

Bioluminescence is the production and emission of light by a living organism, ranging from fireflies to plankton. The bioluminescent kayaking and rafting tours available in Florida are run by a variety of companies in Banana River near Cape Canaveral, Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge near Titusville, and Indian River Lagoon near Titusville. Companies such as BK Adventure focus on an array of tours, including kayaks, rafts, and paddleboards along the Indian River Lagoon. Whether it’s a family raft tour, a sunset kayak tour, or an evening tour in a clear kayak for an immersive experience, you’re likely to have a truly memorable experience.

Bioluminescence looks different depending on the time of year. The best time is typically mid- to late summer with a new moon. Full moons aren’t ideal as they produce too much light on the water. From May to November, you’re likely to enjoy the Bioluminescent Plankton (Dinoflagellates), which are a type of bioluminescence that covers the water. This ethereal-colored plankton glows blue or green in the warm waters, especially when paddles, boats, or even your hand disturbs them. You can even pick up handfuls of the glowing water and play with it, creating amazing sparkles on your skin.

Even if you can’t make it during the summer, if you go from November through March, you’re more likely to see the other type of bioluminescence, the glowing comb jellies. Despite the name, these aren’t jellyfish. However, they are jelly-like sea creatures and are often just as popular if not more so than the dinoflagellates. Either way, you’re sure to come away filled with awe and wonder, although remember that this is nature so you can’t always guarantee how much you’ll see.

Since it’s best to see these events on low-light nights, guided tours are highly recommended. Fortunately, there are a number of local tours guides and companies available. If you’re planning a trip to Central Florida, don’t miss out on this spectacular experience. While the various boat rides at the theme parks are fun, these bioluminescent tours show you nature at its most magical and amazing, without any high-tech special effects. When you book one of the Fantasy World vacation villas in Kissimmee FL, be sure you also book a bioluminescence kayak, raft, or paddle board tour for an experience you’ll never forget.
