Best Animal Kingdom Attractions

While some attractions at Animal Kingdom, Walt Disney World’s zoological theme park, remain closed for the time being, more and more rides and attractions are opening up on a regular basis. So if you’re planning a trip and want to explore this theme park, make sure you make reservations at FantasyWorld, one of the leading Kissimmee Florida resorts, and make a list of what your must-see attractions are at Animal Kingdom.

Animal Kingdom is sometimes thought of as a half-day park, especially with the entertainment shows currently unavailable, yet if you take your time and stop for lunch, you’ll find that there’s still plenty to fill a day in this park and you have the time to enjoy it, not feeling the need to rush from ride to ride. This is the kind of park that is particularly good for younger children who may not have the stamina for a full day at a theme park, but there’s still plenty for adults and children to truly enjoy in a wonderful setting.

It is the Animal Kingdom, so it’s no surprise that one of the best attractions is the Kilimanjaro Safari. This ride is designed to take you through the “natural” environments where you’d find these animals, and there really is a multitude of animals to see. However, the best time to see the majority of the animals is first thing in the morning or on one of the last rides of the day, especially around sunset, as that’s when the animals are most active and likely to be seen and the scenery itself is pretty fantastic. The drivers are great sources of knowledge about the animals, so feel free to ask questions.

There are two Pandora – World of Avatar attractions, but if you have to choose just one, Avatar Flight of Passage tends to rank a little higher. This one is a screen-based attraction, but you are fully immersed, feeling so much, from the moment you “climb” on the back of a banshee and link to an avatar flying through Pandora. It may be a screen, but you can actually feel the banshee breathing, not to mention the ocean spray and wind in your face, plus there are a range of scents to experience throughout the ride. Definitely use a FastPass+ for this or you’ll be in line for hours.

The other Pandora ride is the Na’vi River Journey, which has some great bioluminescence visuals and amazing audio animatronics figures, but if you have to wait more than 45 minutes, you may feel a bit let down on this relatively short and slow-moving ride.

If you’re looking for some thrills, don’t miss Expedition Everest. This roller coaster is based on Mount Everest and even includes riding backwards and an encounter with a yeti. There is a minimum height of 44” to keep in mind and you’ll probably want to use a FastPass+ during the day, though lines tend to be shorter first thing in the morning and Single Riders can get through pretty quickly. This is also a ride that is great at night.

Obviously, animals are going to be a part of the Animal Kingdom, but the Maharajah Jungle Trek may be the best attraction for those who want to get up close to a variety of real animals. This is a walk-through exhibit that includes tigers, birds, bats, and more as it takes you through a lifelike Asian jungle environment, complete with remote temple ruins and more. The lifelike experience — along with the wealth of information from the cast members — makes this so much more than just a live animal exhibit of the animals in their pens. This feels much closer to a real-life experience.

These are among the most highly ranked attractions at Animal Kingdom. Obviously, though, it depends on you and your children to decide what you want to see, and if you’re spending the day, there’s time to see more, such as the Dinosaurs ride that includes high speeds and trying to save dinosaurs moments before extinction. Look through the list of attractions and see what sounds best for you and your family. Then head back to FantasyWorld, one of the exciting Kissimmee Florida resorts, where you can enjoy more rides and attractions with the water park, games, sports, crafts, and more, plus, the truly comfortable vacation villas, perfect for relaxing after a day in the Animal Kingdom.
