Top Things to See With Kids at Central Florida Zoo

When staying at FantasyWorld, one of the outstanding Kissimmee Florida resorts, you have the benefit of a great location for Central Florida attractions, as well as plenty of fun on site. Between trips to the theme parks and time spent enjoying our own water park at FantasyWorld, consider taking a trip to the Central Florida Zoo. This long-time favorite outing, even for locals, is one for the whole family to enjoy, especially kids.

The Central Florida Zoo has more than 350 animals representing more than 100 species, ensuring an opportunity for your young ones to likely see one of their favorite animals. The zoo is open daily from 9am-4pm and if you have your heart set on seeing certain animals, it’s best to get there early when the animals are usually their most active. After seeing the animals in settings that are often similar to their natural environments, you’ll find that the zoo offers plenty of other fun and adventures to pass the whole day.

The range of animals is extensive with all sorts of mammals, including cheetahs, the recently added Florida black bear, otters, spider monkeys, and even the endangered Indian rhinoceros. You’ll also find birds, amphibians, reptiles, and invertebrates. The Herpetarium, home to amphibians and reptiles, even includes some of the most venomous snakes from around the world, but also includes some native Florida snakes. Many of the animals can be viewed from the boardwalk, which offers a picturesque route through the zoo. You’ll also find gardens and plenty of local plants, trees, and more throughout the zoo. There’s even a butterfly garden!

Best of all, for children (and adults) who want to get closer, there are a variety of more hands-on attractions. Barnyard Buddies Children’s Petting Zoo gives guests the chance to feed farm animals, including sheep, goats, chickens, an alpaca, and even a llama. It’s not just farm animals, though. There’s also the opportunity (weather and animals permitting) to feed the resident giraffes, Rafiki and Gage. For a truly exceptional experience, make sure you reserve a chance to meet PJ, the friendly Indian rhinoceros. He only meets groups of five and no one under the age of 5 and there is an extra fee to visit this wonderful animal who is one of only about 4,000 left in the whole world.

Located just inside the zoo entrance, you’ll find the Wharton-Smith Tropical Splash Ground, a fun place to frolic on a great splash pad. There’s also a playground near the giraffe exhibit. Just outside the zoo entrance, don’t miss the Seminole Aerial Adventures featuring a kids course, upland course, and rainforest course, which are navigated using ropes, ziplines, bridges, and more.

If you have a little one who loves animals, make sure you include a visit to the Central Florida Zoo and make sure you book one of the vacation villas at FantasyWorld, one of the leading Kissimmee Florida resorts.
