Quite often, New Year’s Eve at Disney can rival Times Square in New York City for the number of revelers waiting to cheer in the new year. Still, it’s worth it — and the weather is usually much better! — to experience the magic and wonder of the festivities at Disney’s Magic Kingdom. All of the parks have great celebrations, but Disney World’s Magic Kingdom is often considered the creme de la creme of them all. Of course, this means it also tends to be the busiest. Not for the faint of heart, it’s often best to get there earlier in the day and plan to stay the whole time, as the park often reaches capacity during the day.

There’s something for everyone at the Magic Kingdom’s New Year’s celebrations. For the little ones, there are dance parties with DJs at Frontierland and Tomorrowland. These child-friendly dance parties run from 7 pm to midnight. Various characters also tend to show up at these parties.

All of the lights and festivities throughout the park make it a magical experience, including the way the whole of Cinderella’s Castle glows. Of course, the real light show comes at midnight with the Fantasy in the Sky fireworks. This is a true extravaganza of light, sound and magic in a spectacular setting. Make sure you claim your best viewing spot at least an hour ahead of time. Family members can always take turns saving spots if the kids are getting restless.

On the other hand, if the little ones — or even the adults — just aren’t going to make it to midnight, the Fantasy in the Sky fireworks also take place at 6:30 pm, to ensure everyone can enjoy the show. Plus, almost all of the special events, including the fireworks and dance parties are also held on December 30 if you want to enjoy the festivities, but do something else on New Year’s Eve.

Of course, the other parks have their own festivities. For example, Epcot is a favorite, since they celebrate the new year at each country’s pavilion as the clock strikes midnight in their respective country. There’s an official announcement and even a small fireworks show. There’s also live music at the American Gardens Theatre, and of course there’s an impressive fireworks display at midnight (and 6:30 pm).
