Itineraries to Orlando: What To See and Do En Route (I-77)
Part of the fun of a summer vacation is the road trip to your destination. If you’re heading to Central Florida and staying at the Fantasy World resort in Kissimmee Florida, there are plenty of great stops along the way if you’re traveling along I-77. If you’re spreading out your drive over a couple of days, you can easily add some sightseeing to break up the long stretches of driving. This gives everyone a chance to stretch their legs and have some fun. Whether it’s a shorter pit stop or a longer exploration, there are plenty of fascinating things to see and do along I-77.
If you’re coming through Ohio, you’ll be spending some time amid the mountains. Appalachia is full of beautiful views, so enjoy the scenery at various stops along the interstate or spend some time in one of the state parks. For a visit to an unusual museum, take Exit 83 in Dover, Ohio, to see the Warther Museum of woodcarving. They have some spectacular wood carvings, including locomotive replicas.
West Virginia has no shortage of beautiful scenery, either, but they also have some impressive state buildings, museums and gardens that are all free. Exit 99 in Charleston, WV, will take you to the West Virginia State Capitol Building, which is an awe-inspiring piece of architecture. With its gold dome, colonnaded facade, and marble interior, it’s hard not to be impressed. Located along the Kanawha River, the Capitol Building also features some beautiful gardens that you can explore. Another free option in Charleston is the West Virginia State Museum.
Once you’re into North Carolina, you might want to stop by Mt. Airy off Exit 81. While kids may not understand the appeal, parents might appreciate a visit to what is affectionately known as Mayberry. Andy Griffith grew up in Mt. Airy and the town had an influence on his eponymous show. You’ll soon find yourself whistling the theme tune as you wander the picturesque streets.
Finally, before you move onto I-95, you’ll pass through Columbia, SC. As well as being a charming southern city, they also have some tasty BBQ. Maurice’s, off Exit 18, has plenty of fans. Just a little south of Columbia, you’ll be turning onto I-95 and then I-4 to get to the Fantasy World resort in Kissimmee Florida. Check out last month’s blog for more highlights of what to see and do as you head along I-95. Soon enough, you’ll be at Fantasy World, ready for a whole new series of fun adventures and sightseeing.Tags: Kissimmee timeshare rentals, Kissimmee vacation
